Freezing
Can I freeze luncheon meat?
Sliced meats can be frozen, but we do not recommend it. The freezing and thawing of sliced meats may impact the texture and quality of the product. Once thawing occurs, the meats may have a softer texture with increased moisture levels. If you would like to freeze sliced meats, do this at least one week prior to the “best before” date on the package. Once thawed, sliced meats should be used up within 3-4 days after thawing.
When should I freeze meats?
Foods frozen at peak quality will taste better than foods frozen near their “best before” date. We recommend tight plastic over-wrap, and when storing for a longer period, a layer of foil wrap can help to maintain the quality and taste of meat, and avoid freezer burn.
How should I handle freezer burn?
If food gets freezer burnt, it is still safe to eat, it is merely dry in spots. These spots can be removed before or after cooking.
